About Postal Assistant Computer Skill test , and for other assistant Examinations under SSC

If You are preparing for SSC examination for assistant posts, you may some time face the computer skill test ( Computer typing skill test), We are putting here our own experience about the computer skill test for Postal assistant examination (SBCO, Others) so that some of you may be benefited from this

Previous year “computer skill test” conducted by Postal Department consist of two parts

                        1. Computer typing speed test

                        2. Data entry test
Both for a duration of 30 minutes,15 minutes for each. Also you will be provided a computer for this .

In Computer typing speed test you can select either 450 words English passage or 375 words Hindi passage. For English passage there should be a average speed of 30 words per minute and for Hindi it is 25 words per minute as in the notification, But Normally while the actual test, they prefer a lower cut off which varies from 15 to 20 words per minute. The passage may contain many difficult words, punctuations, capital words etc. So be very careful while typing. Soon after the computer typing exam your result will be displayed on the computer monitor like your average speed, errors you have done while typing etc.

In data entry exam you will be given data like address, phone numbers etc. Here also the cut off may be around 2500 keystrokes per minute. This test is much easier than the above one. This test mainly concentrates on the speed of number entering without error. After the completion of exam the result will be appeared on the screen.

    1. Each word carry equal marks, So what would be the 40% of 450 words ? And note the exam is only qualifying. Merit will be made from paper one.

    2. All are confused of this 40%..??what are they meant by that??

    3. Yes merit will be made from Paper One, as per previous exam, qualification of skill test was essential and if failed in it means not qualified for PA, and they just added 5 marks to the total marks scored in the exam for qualified ppl.

    5. Each word carry equal marks. So if you type 200 words (Every five correct key strokes consist a word) but all correctly then you are considered qualified. Suppose if anybody types with a speed of 30 wpm and completes the entire paragraph but makes lots of mistakes his true speed would not be 30 wpm. It would be the time taken to write the correct words not the wrong words. Hence the speed would drop. Similarly if you only type 200 words ( all correct) and leave the remaining, then the remaining would be considered negative. It is my guess and believe it is so. Otherwise how they would judge the speed and accuracy. Correction welcomed.

    2. As the scoring of this typing test will not be considered and it is merely qualifying exam. It would not effect merit at all. I came to know through admit card that a printout of typed paragraph by the candidate will be taken and evaluated later and also that every entry will carry equal marks. So its a kind of paper that has negative marking with 40 % marks essential to qualify. Hence from this point of view it seems majority would qualify. So it all comes down to paper one merit as they have mentioned.
